As you probably know, Tuesday was Free Narcan Distribution Day sponsored by the NJ Department of Human Services. Over 140 pharmacies participated in this important initiative, including 35 community pharmacies. (click here for a list of participating community pharmacies highlighted in yellow).
To be eligible to participate, pharmacies must have already applied for and received a standing order to dispense naloxone without a prescription. GSPO member John Power of Powers Pharmacy in Browns Mills was the first community pharmacy to sign up for this standing order. John dispensed 88 Narcan units during the day and was visited yesterday by Dr. Shereef Elnehal, Commissioner of the NJ Department of Health. (click here for the graphic posted to the GSPO Facebook and Twitter feeds). Please feel free to share and post to your own site/feeds. Other pharmacies participating in this program included Tiffany Natural Pharmacy in Westfield (132 units), Twin City Pharmacy in S. Plainfield (90 units), Colonia Natural Pharmacy (120 units) and Park Plaza Pharmacy (116 units).
Congratulations to all the pharmacies that distributed this life-saving medication Tuesday. GSPO will share more details about this very successful give-away day soon.
